| Going to enter with this story right here, I suppose. It's the prologue, and the first two chapters. I must warn you that I'm still a bit rough with english, and that there'll probably be loads of mistakes all along... As well as my tendency to write a bit too much, resulting in a long, drawling story. Hopefully you'll be able to read through it... I may add more chapters if they're wished for c: - Fanfic:
Prologue
Nothingness... Not a thing heard, not a thing seen. All that is known, is that you're just born, and that your life depends on how quickly you get over to your mother's belly and suckle. Finally, once you're licked clean, your hearing return. In my case, I didn't really want to hear anything.
Everything started that one day. A particularly bright and beautiful day, with the sun shining at every cat's fur. Such days you'd never think could go wrong. The one bad thing that happened that day though, was me and my siblings being born. As said earlier, I didn't hear a thing before I was licked clean. Then the mewls of my siblings, my mother's voice speaking gently and roughly to a fellow queen nearby, her voice sounding like she'd been struggling for hours. Then the names. I don't recall this part that much. I guess it's not a memory, but more of a tale Sunstar told me before I got my warrior name.
Anyway, my mother intentionally called us Littlekit, Dovekit and Nettlekit. Sweet, gentle and commonly used. Perfect for a batch of kits. Then my father appeared. I recall his voice to be thunderous, and with a hint of anger, furiosity and definite dominance. After the rumours I've heard, He slashed open a gash in her cheek. However, despite our mother's disagreement with the names, we ended up being called what our father decided.Nightkit, Deathkit and Chaoskit. "Fitting for my blood" he said.
Now that you know the base of my history, my birth and how my parents acted, I will continue the story. Memories that are long faded, but has been recovered for the sake of telling you what actually happened.
Chapter 1
"Nightkit! Nightkit! Wake up! Softpatch promised to take us outside! You didn't forget, did you?" the endless yelling of my older sister, Deathkit rings in my ears, and with a growl I grab her by her shoulders and whip her around onto her back. Pinning her down I stand over my older sister, who is actually much smaller than I am. "So I heard." I say cooly, but with a flicker of amusement as she kicks me in the belly in a pitiful attempt to get me off. Gently hitting her in the cheek I scream "You're it!" before I hurtle for the exit and out into the bright, new world. At first, the light is blinding me completely and I stagger backwards, causing Deathkit to run straight into my back end.
As my bright blue eyes adjust to the lighting, I see the most amazing playground that ever was. 10 times larger than the nursery, and with a lot more to play with. Turning around I cuff my sister's ear and chuckle. "You're still it." I say and turn around to scamper out of her reach, just as she sends a paw flailing towards my foot in an attempt to tag me. Laughing I avoid her by using quick and stealthy move my mother showed me.
As I run to avoid further contact with her, I keep glancing over my shoulder. However, it's seemingly not the best thing I could do. Suddenly, I crash into the left paw of a large, fluffy cat. Looking up I notice the angered face of my father, Swiftclaw. Gulping I realize I'm most likely to get cuffed, and I'm right. Unlike most parents, he cuffs us with his claws unsheathed, drawing droplets of blood from the back of our ear. We've been to seen to by the medicine cat at least 5 times during our first moon of living already. And I seemingly just got another. Giving a sharp yelp of pain I shrink back. Swiftclaw leans down by my side and growls lightly. "Watch where you're going, kit. Or you won't last long in the forest. You're most likely to fall into a badger's nest, hm?" he says and hisses with annoyance.
My mother has always told me that we never quarreled with Swiftclaw. Never. Therefore I retreat, crawling back to the nursery. From behind, my sister appears and tags me playfully. "Hey! What's up? Dad cuff-" her words seemingly get stuck in her throat, and I never get to hear what she intended to say. Instead, I'm slammed to the ground by a pair of large, sturdy paws. Growling I attempt to twist around to fight back, although the heavy load of my brother is too much. "See what I caught, dad! The runt of the litter!" he yelled and looked particularly pleased with his 'kill'. "Get off, Chaoskit." Softpatch says calmly, her tail flicking with annoyance. Once my brother, quite sulky about losing his catch, steps off, my mother reaches in and licks the wound my father gave me. "Oh dear. Lets get Bluefeather to add some cobwebs for that, shall we?" she said kindly. I catch a quick glare from Chaoskit, which probably means he'll be back onto me tomorrow.
"There you are. Just don't play too harshly, alright?" Bluefeather says. I've always liked the she-cat. So peaceful, so calm. Seemingly without worries in the world. And yet she does miracles with her paws. Smiling I nod and look at my mom. "Will you keep Chaoskit off my back then?" I ask. Softpatch, however, isn't given much of a chance to reply before Swiftclaw arrives. Glancing at Bluefeather, I see the grim look on her face, knowing that my father isn't the most popular cat in the clan. Yet, he's respected. And I want to be just like him!
Swiftclaw studies me as if I'm nothing more than a piece of prey, before he turns to Softpatch, his eyes narrowed into a sharp V. "Softpatch, I need a word with you. Now." he says angrily, and my mother follows, without question. Bouncing back out of the medicine den, I study my two parents as they exit the camp, and disappear into the forest. The forest. Geeze, I can't wait to be an apprentice! I'll be the best warriors- I cut myself off for a moment to think. -No, not warrior. I'll be the best leader of the clans! Ever! I'll hunt, fight, train and become among the best! Then the clan cats will have to- my mind stops racing as Bluefeather pads up to my side and gives me a light nudge. "You better get back to the nursery, young one. Your siblings are awaiting you." she says, and with a nod I scamper back over to them.
"Where's Softpatch?" Deathkit squeaks, and I shrug softly. "Not here, obviously." I say with a sharp undertone of annoyance. "Nope, she went to talk with dad. Dunno what they're going to say to one another." I continue. As I speak, I keep an eye on Chaoskit. Without letting him know, I slowly crouch. When Deathkit's got her answer, I leap at him with a squeal of excitement, pretended to be a war cry. The two of us clash into a wrestle, and we do our best to pin the other.
While we work out our ranks, we're unknown to what happens with our mother. A shriek is heard, the warriors storm out from camp, and the next thing we know is that our mother is dead before our feet. Happiness has never been turned so quickly into sorrow and agony.
Chapter 2
Moons have come, and passed as quickly as they came. There's barely 3 moons since our mother died. She was buried of course, and we got stuck with Robinflight, our father's grouchy sister. She's known for being the ugliest cat within the clans, and always wears a pouty or annoyed face. She always keeps complaining about the fact that after our mothers death and our father's immediate exile, she was left with us. Never wanted kits, she says.
Because right after Softpatch died, they found him bloodied, and with Softpatch's scent welling from him. They thought he'd planned to push her to the lake, and make it look like an accident. However, it hadn't worked out properly and he'd have to kill her with his claws. Now, we don't have any parent at all. Quite frankly, I couldn't care less. All I want, is to be free, until I get the chance to prove myself as a great apprentice. The looks cast by the other cats are easily ignored by me and my siblings, and despite our mother's death we take on life with surprising ease.
Right now, we sit beside a large bug my sister found. She's eagerly patting at it, and just to show her that I'm strong too, I jump straight at it. "Ew! Nightkit, you killed the funny bug!" she yells at me, and I lift a paw covered with what seems like green bug blood. "Well, it's not my fault, is it!? I couldn't know it's so utterly defenseless." I defend myself, and study the bug. Next thing known, I hear the beginning of Robinflight's call, then I'm squished to the ground. "Ow! Ow..! Chaoskit, get off!" I wail, overhearing whatever Robinflight said. Meanwhile, Chaoskit keeps pushing at my head, trying to stop my useless flailing.
The only thing that end our fight is that we hear the last sentence of what Robinflight throws at us. "... and if you don't get your pitiful small tails back inside, I'll make Icestar lock you into the den for another 6 moons!" the words are like an instant hit, and obediantly we pad towards the nursery, muttering our apologizes.
Robinflight walks ahead, of course. But suddenly, a weird feeling of being watched fills my mind. I can see a dark shadow on the top of the camp, sitting by the edge of the trees. Curious I turn my head around, to find myself staring into nothingness. Eagered by my find, I call for my siblings. "Hey Deathkit! Chaoskit! I saw a warrio-" I'm cut off by another round of Robinflight's yelling, threatening to let me sleep outside. That's fine with me. I don't want to be with them, anyway. I think grouchily as I look around for a place to sleep. Seeing a creack in the camp wall, I slide inside, and seemingly a new world opens straight before my eyes. The only word that escapes my lips is "cool". Promising myself that tomorrow, I'll show my siblings this room, I curl up on the cold cave floor and fall asleep.
Despite the cold floor, I actually sleep rather well. Until the call of Icestar, the leader of our clan, wakes me up. His voice is so urgent and full of need, I'm wondering what caused the mighty leader to call fore me like this. Leaving behind my thoughts I rush back out, right before Icestar raises his voice into a yowl of frustration. "NIGHTKIT!" he yowls, and he continues by calling my siblings' names too.
Confused, I carefully approach. "I-I'm here Icestar... I'm not in trouble, am I?" I ask, hoping that Robinflight haven't told him about our disobedience, and has decided to leave us behind apprenticeship for another 6 moons. That will be the most cruel thing they've ever done! I think, but the look on Icestar's face as he whips around tells me a whole other story. Immediatly, I'm covered with licks of joy.
"Oh StarClan thank you!" he says energeticly. Leaning away to avoid his licks, I pull a grimace. Even when my mother did that, I hated it. "Ew, stop it!" I mutter, though Icestar explains about how relieved he is to see me and so on. I really don't catch his words. My mind is on something else.
When he finally finish licking my face a smile widens on my face. "Where's Deathkit and Chaoskit? I have to show them something!" I say and flick my tail with excitement. Icestar looks slightly uncomfortable though. "T-They're not here, Nightkit." he mutter, and I pull off a confused face. Then realisation seemingly hits and I smile brightly. "In the nursery then!" I say, and begin to force my way towards it, only to be stopped by Icestar's paw. "No. We were attacked last night, Nightkit. Robinflight was murdered, and your brother and sister disappeared with no visible traces left behind. We believe they've been taken by the fox..." he mutter, a look of sorrow on his face.
For a moment, the world stands completely still. Sure, I can handle my parent's not being here. Although the agony of knowing my siblings are gone too, is too much. "W-what?!" I exclaim, as if the truth doesn't want to penetrate into my mind. They're gone... Mosspelt's Edit: Will be used in the next WarriorsFest | |
